There are more options than most people think when selecting a shower door. The standard width of a shower door is 28" wide and the standard height is 71-3/4" or 72". The door can be made smaller with little to no issues but to make it wider or taller, you will need to verify the hardware you have selected can support it. All hardware have limitations or specifications that need to be meet to guaranty safe and proper usage.

Most standard shower door hinges or pivots will not let you exceed a width of 33" even after adding a third hinge. If your opening is larger then 33” then you have a few options at that point. You can go with a shower door plus an inline glass panel which is very common option. If the opening is large enough you can have french doors which are two shower doors side by side.

Shower doors are typically wall mounted using hinges, another option if you do not wish to use hinges is ceiling mount, mounting the door uses pivots instead of hinges. The pivots mount on the top and at the bottom of the glass door. The top can ether be the ceiling if the hardware allows or to a panel above the door.

You can also mount the door to an inline glass panel as well using glass to glass hinges that can support the door in a few different angels (135 also know as inline glass to glass hinges, 45 & 90). Keep in mind attaching the door to a panel is more expensive, the hinges normally cost more, the panels require notches cutout for the hinges to attach to and the installation can be a little more tricky.
